Job settings: titles, locations and the search plan

The Job settings panel tells the extension what to look for and how far to go. This is where you add job titles and locations, and where you switch on company details and AI.

In short

Open Jobs, then Job Listings and press the settings gear. Add up to 10 job titles and 10 locations. Every title is searched in every location, and the result is your search plan.

The Extension section sets pages per search and the company switches. The extension reads your settings each time it starts.

Open the settings

Where the settings are

Go to Jobs in the sidebar and open Job Listings. Press the settings gear at the top right of the page. A panel called Job settings slides in with five sections on the left:

SectionWhat it holds
Job titlesThe roles you want to find.
LocationsWhere you want to find them.
Search planEvery title in every location, with a way to remove the ones you do not want.
ExtensionPages per search, marking saved jobs, and company details.
AIAI on or off, the model and the resume prompt. See Turn on AI.
Job settings only exist while Job Tracker is on and the extension is connected. If the gear is missing, finish step 1 first.
Titles and locations

Job titles

Add the roles you want, one at a time, for example Software Engineer or Product Designer. You can add up to 10, and each can be up to 100 characters. The counter beside the heading shows how many you have used.

  • Type the title and press Enter or choose Add.
  • Titles are not case sensitive, so adding the same title twice is refused.
  • Remove a title with the small cross on its chip. Jobs already saved for it stay in your list.
Use the words employers use. LinkedIn suggests its own wording while the extension types, and the extension picks the matching suggestion, so a clear common title works best.

Locations

A location can be a city, a region or a whole country, such as Berlin, Bavaria or Germany. You can add up to 10. The extension asks LinkedIn for the place by name and remembers the code LinkedIn uses for it, so later searches start faster.

  • Spell the place the way LinkedIn does. If LinkedIn cannot find it, the search stops with a message that names the location.
  • Remote works as a location when LinkedIn offers it for your search.
The search plan

The search plan

Every job title is searched in every location. With 5 titles and 10 locations that is 50 searches. The Search plan section lists all of them, with how many jobs each one has already saved and when it last ran.

  • Search the list by job title or location.
  • Remove a search you do not want with the bin icon. A bar offers Undo right away, and removed searches are kept in a Removed list where you can add them back.
  • The extension runs the searches one after another in your browser, so more searches take longer. You can run a single search or all of them. See Fetch jobs.
Removing a title or a location removes its searches from the plan. Removing just one search from the plan keeps the title and location for your other searches.
The extension settings

The Extension section

These settings are read by the extension each time it starts, so a change applies to your next search.

1
Pages per search
How many pages of LinkedIn results to read for each search, from 1 to 10. A page has about 25 jobs, and more pages take longer. The default is 5. Use the plus and minus buttons.
2
Mark saved jobs on LinkedIn
On by default. Adds an Available in Timelydo line to jobs in the LinkedIn list that are already saved, so you can see at a glance what you have.
3
Fetch company details from LinkedIn
Off by default. When on, the extension reads each new company's LinkedIn page once: about text, size, industry, headquarters, founded year, specialties and website. See Fetch company details.
4
Fetch company details from the company's website
Off by default, and only available while the LinkedIn setting is on. TimelyDo also reads the company's own website once: the content of its home page, its logo and its colours. The website address comes from LinkedIn.

At the top of the section a status box says whether your browser is connected and which version of the extension it runs.

Start with 1 or 2 pages per search while you try it out. You can raise it later once you have seen how many jobs a page brings.

How settings are saved

Every change saves as you make it, with a short confirmation. Nothing needs a Save button except the resume prompt, which has its own. The extension picks up changes the next time you press Start, so a search that is already running keeps the settings it started with.

Help

Frequently asked questions

Q

How many job titles and locations can I add?

Up to 10 job titles and up to 10 locations. Together they can make up to 100 searches in the plan.

Q

Why are there so many searches in my plan?

Every title is searched in every location, so the number is titles times locations. Remove the searches you do not need from the Search plan, or remove titles and locations you no longer want.

Q

I changed a setting but the extension ignored it

The extension reads settings when a run starts. Stop the run and start it again. If the popup still shows old searches, open it again or press the refresh in the popup.

Q

I removed a search by mistake

Press Undo in the bar that appears, or open the Removed list at the bottom of the Search plan and add it back.

Q

The extension says LinkedIn did not suggest my location

Check the spelling and try the place name LinkedIn uses, for example the city rather than a neighbourhood. Remove the location and add it again with a simpler name.

Q

Does removing a title delete the jobs I already saved?

No. Saved jobs stay in Job Listings. They simply stop being refreshed by that search.
