Fetch faster with multiple tabs

By default the extension uses one LinkedIn tab. Tab settings let it use several at once, for searches, for companies, or both, with a clear note of what each tab will take.

In short

Click the extension icon, then the gear at the right of the Jobs and Companies tabs. Switch on Use multiple tabs for jobs or for companies and choose a maximum from 2 to 10.

More tabs finish sooner, and they also mean more requests to LinkedIn at once. Start with 2.

Turn it on

Where the settings are

Click the Timelydo icon. At the right end of the Jobs and Companies tabs there is a gear icon. It opens Tab settings. The choices are saved in this browser only.

The two options

OptionWhat it does
Use multiple tabs for jobsRuns several searches at the same time, each in its own tab, up to your maximum. When a tab finishes it takes the next search from the queue. Each extra tab opens in a window of its own that does not take focus, so LinkedIn keeps drawing the page.
Use multiple tabs for companiesReads company pages in tabs of their own, up to your maximum, while your searches are still running. The first saved jobs start them, instead of waiting for every search to end.

Each option has its own slider, Maximum tabs, from 2 to 10, with 2 as the default. The slider only appears once the option is on.

What each tab will take

While you move a slider, a line under it tells you what to expect, for example:

  • Each tab will fetch about 5 of your 10 searches.
  • Each tab will fetch about 25 of your 100 companies.
  • If there are fewer things than tabs: only 3 tabs are needed for 3 companies.

Work is handed out one piece at a time to whichever tab is free, so these numbers are an estimate. For jobs the unit is searches, because the number of jobs a search finds is not known in advance.

How it works

How the tabs share the work

  • Every tab is labelled on the panel over LinkedIn, for example Tab 2 of 3.
  • No two tabs ever read the same company or run the same search.
  • If one tab is closed, the others carry on and the next search takes its place. If LinkedIn signs you out or answers that it is being asked too much, every tab stops.
  • When all the work ends, the extra tabs and windows are closed and the first tab moves to your Job Listings page.

Use it responsibly

More tabs mean more requests to LinkedIn at the same moment, from your own account. LinkedIn can limit or sign out accounts that look automated. Start with 2 tabs, keep pages per search low, and avoid running many tabs for a long time.

The default of one tab is the gentlest. Turn multiple tabs on when you have a long queue, for example a few hundred waiting companies, and turn it off again afterwards if you like.

Help

Frequently asked questions

Q

How many tabs should I use?

Two is a good start for either option. More helps with long queues, but it also raises the request rate on your LinkedIn account. There is no benefit in more tabs than you have searches or companies, and the settings say so.

Q

Why do extra search tabs open in new windows?

LinkedIn only draws job cards that are visible. A tab hidden behind another tab in the same window is not drawn, so a search left there would stall. A window of its own, in the background, keeps drawing.

Q

Can companies be fetched while jobs are still being searched?

Yes, with Use multiple tabs for companies on. Without it, companies wait for the searches because they share one tab.

Q

Could LinkedIn restrict my account?

Any automated use of LinkedIn carries that risk. The extension paces itself like a person, but several tabs raise the load. Use the lowest number that helps, and stop if LinkedIn asks you to verify.

Q

I closed one of the tabs

The others carry on. For searches, the closed tab's search ends with a message and the next one takes its place. For companies, the remaining tabs keep reading, and the run ends when the last one finishes.
