Step 7 of 8

Create your default resume in the CV Builder

AI writes tailored copies of one resume: your default. It can reword and reorder what is in it, but it cannot invent your history. So build this one carefully, once, and every AI resume starts from it.

In short

Open Jobs, then CV Builder, choose New resume and fill in your details. The first resume you make is your default.

You can keep as many resumes as you like. Change the default any time from the card menu.

Why it matters

Why the default resume comes first

When you press Generate resume with AI, TimelyDo sends your default resume to the AI together with the job. The AI rewrites the headline and summary, reorders and rewords your experience, and adjusts your skills, using only what your resume already says. It is told never to invent employers, dates, clients, education, certifications, languages, achievements or numbers.

A complete, truthful default gives the AI more to work with. Add every real project, tool, achievement and skill, even ones you think are minor. The AI chooses what fits each job, and it can only choose from what is there.
Build it

Open the CV Builder

In the sidebar open Jobs and then CV Builder (/cv_builder). A new account sees Build your first resume. The header shows how many resumes you have. There is no limit on how many you can keep.

Create a resume

1
Choose New resume
Give it a name you will recognise, for example Main resume, and pick a template. You can change both later.
2
The editor opens
A list of sections sits on the left of the form, with a live A4 preview on the right. Everything saves by itself a moment after you stop typing, and the top bar says when your changes are saved.
3
Fill in your details
Use the sections below. Anything you leave empty is simply not shown.
A second resume starts as a copy of your default, so nobody retypes their history. Duplicating a resume copies it too, and a duplicate is never the default.

The sections

SectionWhat to put there
Personal detailsName, headline, email, phone, location, website, LinkedIn, GitHub and extra links. An optional photo can be cropped square and shown as a circle, rounded or square.
SummaryTwo or three sentences about who you are professionally.
ExperienceCompany, title, location, dates, whether it is current, a description and bullet points.
EducationSchool, degree, field, dates and grade.
SkillsNamed groups of skills, for example Languages, Frameworks, Tools.
ProjectsName, link, technologies, description and bullets.
CertificationsName, issuer, date and link.
LanguagesLanguage and level: Native, Fluent, Advanced, Intermediate or Basic.
Custom sectionsUp to six sections you name yourself, such as Awards or Publications.

Press Sample data in the top bar to fill the sections with example content and see what a full resume looks like. It asks first if you already have content, and a banner lets you Undo it.

Look and share

Templates and design

Choose from 11 templates: Modern, Classic, Minimal, Harvard, Compact, Executive, Europass, Lebenslauf, Sidebar, Two column and Timeline. Harvard and Compact are plain and friendly to applicant tracking systems. Europass and Lebenslauf follow European formats, and they usually include a photo.

The Design panel changes the accent colour, font, text size and spacing, lets you reorder or hide sections, and resets everything. AI never changes these settings: they are put back on the new resume exactly as you set them.

Download as a PDF

Choose Download PDF in the top bar. It opens your browser's print dialog on a print ready page, so the text in the PDF is real text that applicant tracking systems can read. Choose Save as PDF as the destination.

Manage resumes

Cards, table, search and the default

The list shows your resumes as cards with a live preview of each, or as a table, using the two icons in the header. The choice is remembered. The search box suggests as you type and filters by name, headline, company, skill, template, the job a resume was written for, or the AI model.

ActionWhere
Make defaultThe three dot menu on a card or table row. The old default becomes an ordinary resume.
DuplicateThe same menu. Makes a copy with its own name.
Rename or change templateThe same menu.
DeleteThe same menu. Deleting the default passes the role to the resume you edited most recently.

The card with a Default badge is the one AI uses. A card with an AI generated badge was written by AI for a job.

Help

Frequently asked questions

Q

What is the default resume?

The resume AI starts from, and the one new resumes are copied from. The first resume you create is the default, and you can change it from the menu on any resume.

Q

How many resumes can I have?

As many as you like. There is no limit.

Q

How do I change my default resume?

Open the three dot menu on the resume you want and choose Make default. The old default becomes an ordinary resume.

Q

Generate resume with AI says to make a default resume first

Create a resume in the CV Builder. The first one is your default. Then the button works.

Q

Can I edit a resume AI wrote?

Yes. It is an ordinary resume in your CV Builder. Open it, change anything, and download the PDF. AI never touches it again unless you generate another one.

Q

Will the PDF work with applicant tracking systems?

The PDF contains real text rather than a picture, so ATS software can read it. Plain templates such as Harvard and Compact are the safest choice for ATS.

Q

Should I add a photo?

It depends on your country. Photos are usual in Germany, France, Spain and Italy, and rare in the United States and United Kingdom. Photos are optional, and you can hide yours on any resume.

Q

Do I need to save?

No. Changes save by themselves a moment after you stop typing, and leaving the page saves the last change. The top bar shows when everything is saved.
