In short
On Job Listings open a job and press Generate resume with AI at the bottom. It takes up to a minute or two.
The new resume is saved in the CV Builder with an AI generated badge, the job it was written for, a match score and what it cost.
Before you generate
Three things must be true. If one is missing, the button is greyed out and hovering over it tells you which and offers a shortcut.

Generate a resume
What the AI does with your resume
The AI receives your prompt, your default resume without its look settings, the job (title, company, location, description and more) and the company details if you fetched them. It then:
- works out whether the company or a recruiter posted the job, and uses the company profile only for the company;
- rewrites your headline and summary for the role;
- rewords and reorders your experience, emphasising what matches, and never changes employers or dates;
- adjusts your skills, adding ones your history supports and trimming ones that do not matter here;
- scores the match between the job and your original resume, and between the job and the new one.
Your contact details and your look settings (template, colours, font, spacing) are kept exactly as they were. If the answer is not a usable resume, nothing is saved and the run reports it.
The match score
When the AI gives scores, the panel shows Match with the old score, the new score and the gain, for example 42% to 87%, plus 45, with a bar. They are the AI's estimate from 0 to 100 of how well each version fits the job: role and seniority, must have skills, experience, preferred skills, domain and keywords. Treat them as a guide, not a guarantee, and read the resume yourself.
Where the resume is
It is saved in the CV Builder like any other resume, named after the job, with an AI generated badge on its card. It does not replace your default, and nothing is applied to anything automatically.
- In the table view the Written for column links back to the job, Match shows before and after, and AI usage shows the model, tokens, estimated cost and how long it took.
- Open the resume and a strip under the top bar says Generated by AI with the model, when, tokens and match. All details opens the rest: input tokens (and how many were cached), output tokens (and how many were thinking), the total, the estimated cost and the job it was written for.
- The search box finds AI resumes by company, job title, skill or model, and shows an AI pill beside them.
What it cost
The panel and the resume both show about $0.0077 or similar, with the tokens used. It is worked out from the model's price and the tokens OpenAI reported, so it is an estimate. Your OpenAI invoice has the exact amount. Even a failed run is billed by OpenAI if it answered, so the cost is kept for those too.
Review, edit and write again
- Always read it. The AI follows your resume, but it can still reword in ways you dislike. Fix anything in the editor, which saves by itself.
- Write again makes another version for the same job, for example after you change the model or the prompt. Each run is its own resume.
- Download PDF from the editor when you are happy with it.
- You can start up to 10 resumes an hour. Pressing the button again while one is being written gives you the running one.
Frequently asked questions
The Generate resume with AI button is greyed out
Hover over it. It says either that AI is turned off (switch it on in Job settings, AI, which needs your OpenAI key connected) or that you need a default resume first (create one in the CV Builder).
How long does it take?
Usually 20 to 60 seconds, and sometimes up to a minute or two with larger models. The panel shows the time so far.
It says it is still waiting to start
The run is queued for a background worker. If it does not start within a minute or two, something is wrong on our side. Try again later, and contact support if it keeps happening. A run that has not finished after 15 minutes is stopped automatically so it never blocks you.
What do the error messages mean?
They are written to be clear: OpenAI no longer accepts your key (check the OpenAI page), your OpenAI account has no credit (add credit), your resume and the job are too long for the model (try a larger model), the answer was cut off (try a larger model), or OpenAI is busy (try again in a minute).
Will the AI make things up?
It is instructed never to invent employers, dates, education, certifications, languages, achievements or numbers, and to keep every claim defensible in an interview. Still, always read the result and edit anything you cannot stand behind.
Does it use the company details I fetched?
Yes, when the job was posted by the company itself. If a recruiter posted it, the AI is told to rely on the job text instead.
How much will each resume cost me?
About $0.0015 to $0.038, depending on the model, as an estimate. GPT-5 Mini, the default, is about a cent or less. See the comparison in the AI settings.
Can I generate for many jobs at once?
One job at a time, by design, so each resume is made deliberately and nothing is spent in bulk. You can write up to 10 an hour.
Can I delete an AI resume?
Yes, like any resume, from the three dot menu in the CV Builder. The job is not affected, and the record of what the run cost is kept.
