The short version

The invoice email has a button that opens the invoice page. It shows the invoice, the amount due and how to pay. It works on a phone and needs no account.

Overview

The layout

On a computer the invoice fills the left. A column on the right holds who it is from, the buttons, the amount due, paying, the history and the report link. The column stays in view while the invoice scrolls.

The right column has:

  • Your logo and name, and the invoice number.
  • Print, Download PDF and Contact the sender. Contact opens an email to you.
  • Any files you attached, as links.
  • The amount due, with its status, and a progress line such as 40.00 of 100.00 paid.
  • How to pay, then What has happened, then Report this invoice.

The page opens in your customer's language. It is never listed by search engines, and nobody needs an account.

The status ribbon

A coloured ribbon across the corner of the invoice shows the status:

OpenPartly paidOverduePaidCreditedVoid

A paid invoice says Paid on and the date, with thanks. A voided invoice says it was cancelled by the sender and nothing is due. An invoice that was fully credited says nothing is left to pay.

The language switcher

A small menu shows the language, for example EN or DE. Your customer can switch it. The choice carries through paying, the PDF and the report. You set the default language for each customer. See Customer language.

Getting paid

Paying by card

Pay by card opens a secure Stripe form, in a dialog on a computer and in a sheet on a phone. A loading skeleton shows while it opens. Card details go to Stripe and are never shared with you. Money goes to your Stripe account. See Pay by card and fees.

With a payment plan the page shows the part that is due now and a Pay all button next to it. See Let customers pay in parts.

If you cannot take card payments at that moment, the customer sees that they cannot pay online right now and should contact you. They never see the technical reason.

Bank transfer

If you added Payment instructions in your invoice defaults, they show under How to pay. That is where your bank details go. See Invoice defaults and your logo. When you record the transfer, the invoice updates. See Record a payment and receipts.

History and credit notes

What has happened lists when the invoice was sent, each payment, and each credit note, with dates. Each credit note also shows under the invoice, in the same layout, with its own PDF. See Credit notes and refunds.

Report this invoice

Every invoice page and every invoice email has a way to report it. The dialog asks why: I was not expecting this invoice, The details are wrong, It looks like a scam or Something else. Details and an email address are optional. You are never told who reported. See Report a suspicious invoice.

Branding and the phone layout

The page uses your accent colour as a band behind the invoice, your logo, and Powered by TimelyDo at the foot. See Templates, logo and colours.

On a phone there is a top bar with your name and the invoice number. The amount comes first, then the invoice. A pay bar stays fixed at the bottom while there is something to pay.

Under How to pay on the invoice page, if you added Payment instructions in your invoice defaults. They also print on the invoice.
