In short
Go to Integrations, open Stripe, and select Connect with Stripe. Then turn on Charge for this event on any event and give it a price.
Your customer pays by card when they book. You are paid into your own Stripe account, and every payment appears on your Payments page.
What it does
With Stripe connected, an event can ask for payment. The booking only exists once the money has arrived, so you never chase an invoice for a meeting that already happened.
The payment goes through → the meeting is booked and you both get an email
What you need
A Stripe account, which you create while connecting, and a few minutes. Stripe asks for details about you and your business, such as your name, a date of birth, an address and the bank account you want to be paid into. You give these to Stripe, not to TimelyDo.
Stripe sets up your account in the country you chose in Settings, and a country cannot be changed afterwards. Choose it before you connect.
Connecting Stripe
Setting a price on an event
Open an event and find the Payments section. Turn on Charge for this event, then enter the amount and choose the currency. Save the event and it now asks for payment.
If Stripe is not connected yet, the section tells you so and links to the Stripe page, so you cannot charge through an account that cannot take payments. Changing the price later only affects new bookings.
Currency
Your account has a default currency, US dollars unless you are in Europe, where it is euros. Change it under Settings, then Account. Every paid event starts with that currency and can use another one, from a list of 24 currencies, with names and symbols written in your own language.
What your customer sees
The Payments page
Open Payments in the sidebar to follow your money. At the top you pick a period (7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 12 months or all time) and, if you charge in more than one currency, which currency to look at.
- Four numbers, each compared with the period before: what customers paid, your share, the average payment and what was refunded.
- A chart of revenue over time, a chart of how payments ended, your best earning events, and where the money goes.
- A table of every payment. Search by payer, event or payment, filter by status, and select a row to see its details and a link to the payment in Stripe.
- An export to a spreadsheet (CSV) of what you are looking at.
Different currencies are never added together, so every total is for one currency at a time.
Fees
There are two separate fees, and the Payments page shows where they come from.
| Fee | Who charges it | How much |
|---|---|---|
| TimelyDo fee | TimelyDo | 0.5 percent of each payment |
| Card fee | Stripe | Stripe's normal rate, taken from your Stripe balance |
Your customer pays the price you set and nothing on top. The Payments page shows your share after refunds and the TimelyDo fee, before Stripe's card fee, which is in your Stripe dashboard.
When a booking is cancelled
| Who cancels | When | What happens to the payment |
|---|---|---|
| Your customer | More than 24 hours before the start | Refunded in full, automatically |
| Your customer | Less than 24 hours before the start | Not refunded automatically. You can refund it yourself |
| You | Any time | You choose. The cancel screen has Refund the payment in full, ticked by default |
A full refund includes TimelyDo's fee, so you never pay for a refund you gave. The customer gets an email saying their payment was refunded. It can take a few days to show on their statement.
Refunding by hand
Open Payments, select the payment, and use Refund. It starts with the full amount that is left, and you can type a smaller amount to refund only part of it. You can refund more than once until the whole payment has gone back.
Refunding does not cancel the booking. If the meeting will not happen, cancel it as well.
Rescheduling
A rescheduled booking keeps the payment it already has. Nobody is charged a second time, and if the new booking is cancelled later, the original payment is the one that is refunded.
Disputes
A dispute is when a customer asks their bank to take a payment back. Stripe handles disputes in your own Stripe dashboard, where you send your evidence. TimelyDo emails you as soon as a payment is disputed and marks it Disputed on the Payments page, with a link to Stripe. If you win, the payment goes back to Paid.
Disconnecting
On the Stripe page, select Disconnect. Your events can then not take payments, and the booking page of a paid event tells visitors that payment is not available right now. Nothing is deleted: your Stripe account, your payments and your history stay, and connecting again picks up where you left off.
Using a different account
Select Use a different account on the Stripe page, then Switch account. TimelyDo forgets the current Stripe account so your next connection starts a new one. Nothing is deleted on Stripe, and you can still sign in to the old account at stripe.com.
